    Question Error trying Live TV

    Tuner: Hauppauge Computer Works : WinTV-HVR-950Q
    Satellite box which broadcasts US NTSC analog on channel 3.

    This device works fine with Windows Media Center on Windows 7.

    I'm now on Windows 8, but I dont think thats the issue...

    1) Has anyone tested NextPVR on Windows 8 RTM?

    2) When I click live TV I get "index out of range, value cannot be -1".

    3) I have no channels defined though... so maybe thats it.. My tuner shows up as 2 tuners - one analog one digital. Channel scanning in device setup on both of them returns no channels....

    Ideas?

    ************** JIT Debugging **************
    To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
    application or computer (machine.config) must have the
    jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
    The application must also be compiled with debugging
    enabled.

    For example:

    <configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
    </configuration>

    When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
    will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
    rather than be handled by this dialog box.

    Issue #2 is caused by issue #3. The livetv code doesn't have a safety check for not having any channels setup at all.

    Also, an HVR-950Q should show up 3 times - ATSC, QAM and Analog. I suspect you are only seeing ATSC and QAM, which are both digital. Please see the Analog Capture Devices section of the post linked in my signature. There's also some help for setting up channels, and your EPG (which if you setup first makes setting up the channels a snap).

    Progress... I installed WinTV7 after I installed NextPVR.. and now analog shows up.

    I get audio now.. but not video. The settings says "DirectX not found using software render". Windows 8, like 7 and Vista have DirectX already installed though, and 9.0c cannot be manually installed on them (some games require a hack to trick them).

    Suggestions?

    install the directx runtime I linked in the sticky thread. yes, I know you have windows 8. install it anyway.

    that won't have anything to do with not getting video though, it just makes the UI render in software which can be slow.

    what did you select for your MPEG-2 Video decoder?

    (edit: funny, I read your post that said you installed WinTV7, but it didn't really register in my mind... I missed a great opportunity there, I could have said "ok, I logged into your system and fixed it; go back into NPVR Settings and you'll see you now have an Analog capture device"... wouldn't that have freaked you out?)

    MPEG2 was set to disabled. I set it to Microsoft. Same result. Changed it to MainConcept (HCW) and it works.

    Thanks!

    ISP is having issues and the directx secondary download is 100 MB... so will try that later.

    Do you have the media center add-on pack for Win8? I think the win8 microsoft mpeg decoder is crippled somehow if you don't have that. Too bad too, it's been a very reliable decoder in Windows 7 and Vista.
