Can NPVR make use of NMT with internal HD?
Title pretty much says it all... in shopping for a used NMT, I find some are available with internal hard drives. Is there any benefit to getting one with an internal HD for use with NPVR?
i own a diskless egreat nmt and i have never struggled without a hd. my npvr runs via a cheap usb key and my media content is all on a remote dlna server
For NextPVR purposes there's very little benefit. There is a swap file created on the drive which gives the base linux system more memory to work with, which can help marginally with certain streams.
On the other hand most non-NextPVR users seem to use an internal drive for installing apps, running YAMJ etc. Some people like the drive with them if they go on the road and want to use the native software in standalone mode, and the incremental cost of these older, smallish drives are a small portion of the cost.
For me the unnecessary heat and noise is a drawback, so I don't use them.
