Verify the Scheduled Tuner is Still Enabled at Record Time

Earlier this week my cable company moved around some of the clear QAM channels. I discovered it in the evening during a set of several scheduled recordings. So, for a quick, work-around, I tried simply un-checking the Enabled box for each of my clear QAM tuners and restarting the recording service. I thought that would cause NPVR to use the other available tuners for the already scheduled recordings. However, what seemed to happen was that recordings which had been assigned to a tuner during the EPG update still used that assigned tuner (which was still physically available on the system) even though it was now not Enabled in NPVR (thus resulting in the wrong channel being recorded). In an instance where the tuner assigned at EPG update time was already in use (i.e. for post-padding), NPVR did seem to adjust and move the recording to a new tuner and only used the tuners that were Enabled at recording time rather than those Enables at scheduling time.

Presuming that I am understanding what happened correctly, I'd like to have NPVR do a check when it begins a recording to make sure that the assigned channel is still Enabled. If not, then it should try to move it to a tuner that is Enabled at recording time.

Every once in a while, what actually gets recorded doesn't match the guide data/what was supposed to be recorded. This situation can happen when the station makes a last minute change (like "breaking news" as was the case with the Boston bombing recently) or (as happened to me earlier this week) if the cable company decides to move around the channels. (Or for other reasons, I'm sure you can think of more. :) )

Anyway, when this situation occurs, I would like to have a menu option that would remove the guide data program from the already recorded history. That way if/when the episode actually airs or re-airs, it would get recorded rather than skipped because NPVR thinks it already recorded it.

Our nephews have gotten to the age where they know how to use NextPVR (So proud! :)).
I’m looking for a way to implement parental control on both TV and Media folders (Movies / TV Series). I was thinking of the following examples:

Example
In the settings, on the Channel category, implementing a tick box next to each channel to enable parental control. Then, when the channel is selected on the EPG a PIN is needed to view it. The PIN is set in the settings. Also access to the settings could be limited with this PIN as well, to stop the settings being altered by unauthorised persons.

Example 2
In the settings, on the Media Folders category, again a tick box for parental control next to each added folder.
I could select a folder called “Films - Over 16’s” and have it restricted to PIN access when it’s accessed in the Video folder. Perhaps the same with Music and Pictures.

When can we expect NPVR to handle DAB radio?

Occasionally we get Tram interference. If this occurs during the EPG update (daily), the EPG shows "no show details" whereas the day before the EPG was full and a pending recording was created (All Episodes, All Channels mode). If the pending recording time slot in the EPG is showing "no show detail" after the EPG update, the pending recording is deleted.
Normally this isn't a problem but if it happens on the day before the pending recording, the program is not recorded.
Would it be better to only remove pending recordings if the show details in the EPG time slot are different but not "no show data"? This is tolerant because it assumes that even though the pending recording is currently not in the EPG, it was and will be again, therefore is valid until proven otherwise.

This method works well provided that I have obviously set the correct time and date. It would be useful if the recording setup page had a tick box that activated a process that updated scheduler automatically to run the shutdown batchfile. I recollect that when I used Showshifter many many years ago that it had such a feature, or perhaps I am suffering from false memories !!.

Several times recently while scanning the EPG I have come across a one off programme which I am uncertain if I have already recorded. What I have done to check is to setup a recurring recording of the one off programme and if the EPG entry turns red then I know I haven't recently recorded it. However if it doesn't turn red then I know I have recently recorded it so can immediately delete the recurring recording entry.

Some sort of less unwieldy built in function would be nice which automatically warned you that a none recurring recording is a duplicate or just a "Duplicate Check" button so you could run a manual check.

Hi sub,

as usual thanks so much for great software that continually improves and builds.

I have just upgraded to to the official release of 2.6.2 and was surprised to again see a prompt to make sure that all NextPVR services had been stopped (which I had already) before completing install. My point!

At least the installer should really know whether a user has closed all services prior to installation BUT IMHO even better that this was handled by the installer without user input?

I do understand how much time you have put into this project and that this may be a back-burner thing? But honestly when I upgrade software I do not expect this kind of extra headache if I was not familiar with the product?

Could the installer with the next version of 3.0 and .Net 4.0 just do this silently?

cheers as ever

Sub - bringing up a prior topic -
I find in my current configuration, I typically watch my recordings on clients, not the main server. I continue to have problems watching recordings (i.e. streaming from the server) on clients even if they are in mpeg-ts format (blank screen, no audio). However the files play fine in the Videos view. When watching I prefer the Recordings view so I only get more recent recordings to select from.

Quote:

Yeah NextPVR was only ever been able to stream mpeg-ts to client PC. This is the only format NextPVR records, so its the only one I've implemented support for.

Unfortunately each and every file format would require a different sort of client/server server implementation, with different custom directshow filters etc, so its a big job to add support for each type of format. Instead I just decided to focus on the one type the app recordings, and not worry about the multitude of different file formats users could be transcoding to. mkv, divx/xvid avi, mp4, mpeg-ps etc

Sorry. If it had been easy, I would have added support for more types.

I'm wondering if it is feasible to allow a user to choose, when in client mode, to either request server to stream or playback file (like in Videos) via a config entry. This way, users should be able to playback on clients, even if they transcode to a different format.
