I have a little list of outstanding issues I wanted to fix at home before I was super happy with my current Media Center setup with respect to NPVR so I figured I would list them out here to have what I view as bugs listed in one place. I hope this will be helpful to others or perhaps even me in the case that there are issues I am having which can potentially be fixed. A couple of these issues are absolute show-stoppers while others are just "nice to have".

If anyone else running the same setup as mentioned in the subject is having an issue not reported here please let me know so I can hopefully capture it. If you are having an issue which is not related to the specific setup mentioned here please do not use this thread.

NOTE: NOT ALL OF THESE ISSUES ARE ON THE NPVR SIDE, SOME ARE SIMPLY XBMC ISSUES ACROSS ALL BACKENDS

These issues are relevant for, but not limited to, the following setup:

Windows 7 64-Bit
XBMC 12.2 Frodo
NPVR 2.6.2
XBMC NPVR Addon 1.6.4 as packaged with XBMC 12.2
HDHomeRun Prime using CableCARD

NPVR Related Issues

Timeshift Files Stay in Place

Description of problem:
Upon changing channels the previous channel seems to continue recording.

Symptoms:
The issues with this are that 1) Eventually your hard drive will get full and they only way to delete the timeshift files is to stop all NPVR services, delete the files, and start the services back up and 2) After you change channels 3 times (in the case of a 3 tuner HDHomeRun Prime) you will run out of tuners and XBMC will freeze/crash/report there are no tuners left.

Thread discussing issue.

Current Fixes or Workarounds?
None have worked for me specifically, have not tried to temporarily disable the timeshift feature entirely.

EPG Genre Colors Not Set

Description of problem:
It is not possible to set XBMC to use colors in the EPG relevant to the genre of a program on television.

Thread discussing issue.

Current Fixes or Workarounds?
Apparently fixed in v1.6.5 of NPVR addon for XBMC however the relevant genre mappings may not be in place. Need documentation on how to create relevant mappings and/or customize EPG colors as are relevant to your source of EPG data.

Channel Changes Freeze

Description of problem:
When using XBMC 12.2 with NPVR Addon 1.6.5 changing channels causes XBMC to freeze and the only fix is to kill XBMC and restart it.

Symptoms
You can begin to watch one channel fine, upon switching to a second channel you will see it begin to record a timeshift file (which will quickly disappear) and the NPVR status will report the new channel is tuned and the tuner is in use but XBMC will sit there and behave as if it is playing the new channel although it is not. A frozen view of the previous channel will remain on the screen. At this point the only thing which can be done is to forcibly close XBMC, stop all NPVR processes, clean up timeshift files and restart everything. It is impossible to ever change channels for me when I am in this particular configuration.

Current Fixes or Workarounds?
Do not use version 1.6.5 of XBMC NPVR Addon

XBMC Live TV Issues

Unable to set up recurring recordings from within XBMC

Description of problem:
Recurring recordings set from within XBMC do not actually work.

Thread discussing issue.

Current Fixes or Workarounds?
This is apparently an issue on the XBMC side. Currently the only workaround is to use the NPVR web-gui to set up any recurring recordings.

Channel Changes are Slow

Description of problem:
This is not an NPVR issue but an XBMC issue where changing channels can take between 5-7 seconds.

Thread discussing issue

Current Fixes or Workarounds?
The above thread is actually not a discussion surrounding NPVR however the fixes posted within that thread will apparently speed up channel changes from 5-7 seconds down to 1-2 seconds when using NPVR. I have not had success with using the 12.2 "Margro" build of XBMC because it comes packaged with NPVR addon 1.6.5 which makes me unable to change channels as mentioned above.

Hello, I am new to the forum and would like some assistance regarding an issue with live tv playback through XBMX 12.1 Frodo (Margro Build)

I tested this tonight and discovered that around 13 and a half minutes into playback of live tv, the screen freezes and will not recover on its own. I can back out to the main menu and begin to watch live tv again, but after 13 and a half minutes the same issue occurs.

I'm running the latest version of NextPVR as a backend with XBMC 12.1 (Margro Build) as the frontend. I do have a Raspberry Pi running 12.2 but I'm focusing my attention on my HTPC which I use more often.

I have two Hauppage USB ATSC Tuners for OTA Broadcasting, plus one HD Homerun Dual OTA Network Tuner. HDHomerun has latest firmware. No cable subscription, just Antenna.

I tried steps such as adjusting timeshifting to on and off
Moved Live TV Buffer to different Drives within my system. (Currently on a 2TB External Drive connected via USB. This is where I store my recorded TV shows)
Checked drive integrity for any issues, all drives are error free
Uninstalled and reinstalled both NextPVR and XBMC

Log files are attached

Thank you

Why XBMC with NPVR at all?

You still need Windows as the NPVR Server right? So you can't get away from that.

What drives you folks to want to use it?

I can play Live TV and anything that has been recorded without any issues. I was having this problem on 2.5.9R2 so just tried to upgrade to 2.6.2 with no change. I have also tried XBMC 12, 12.1, 12.2pre and 13 Alpha 3, all the same result...

Any ideas what I can do to allow playing of a currently recording show? I often like to start watching a program that is half way through to skip the adverts....

So I have installed XBMC with NextPVR as my Live TV backend and client. I am using a Hauppauge 2250 TV Tuner and I have my NTSC Analogue Cable attached to this card. I have successfully had NextPVR recognize the TV Tuner card as well as scan all channels. I have successfully configured NextPVR client in XBMC and I have successfully had NextPVR play a channel in XBMC.

What I have not had success with is having said channel play properly without buffering. Every channel I have tried has buffering every 5-10 seconds and each buffering lasts about 1-1.5 seconds. This makes this setup virtually useless to watch.

XBMC - v12 (Frodo build Jan 28 2013)
NextPVR - 2.6.2 (Server is installed on same machine as XBMC)
Tuner - Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250
RAM - 12 GB
OS - Windows 8 Pro x64
CPU - Intel Core i7 920
HDD - WD 150GB VelociRaptor
NIC - GigaBit
Video Card - ATI HD 5450

As a test I also tried using my HDHomeRun with NextPVR using OTA HD ATSC and in XBMC the buffering was still there.

Anyone have any reccos?

Hi new to the forum!

Bit of a weird bug i have here. When loading a channel in xbmc the channel buffers and gets stuck at <10% it varys at which % it stops on. Now if i stop that channel and reload it it instantly changes the channel. If im then in a working channel and press channel up the picture disrupts and gets stuck on buffering. Again if i stop the playback and re-load it, it works perfectly.

Ive tried it in NPVR as well same problem (obviously does not show buffering).
This also happens for remote clients (other xbmc) I did just login to the web client and seems to work ok.

Im 100% its not signal related due to when using the tuner with the software it came with it works flawlessly.

Setup :- Win7, XBMC 12.1, PCTV - nanoStick T2 290e HDTV USB TV Tuner.

any help with this would be amazing as im losing my $hit with this and the GF is not impressed!

I've been using MythTV for a while very successfully. However, as I/we do a lot of channel hopping it aint the fastest in switching channels - about 14 seconds per switch. Short of adding in code myself I don't think it's on the cards to be addressed.

I've been trying to get nextpvr to work in a simlilar manner to my MythTV setup - I have several rpis with rasbmc on as clients. However, I've been trying for a couple of days now to get it to work. All I seem to get is pvr connection lost and/or no pvr client addon started.

I've sifted through dozens of web pages and tried their fixes but none hve worked for me. I've reinstalled from scratch in case there was some left over on the systems but still no joy.

Please help,
So, I'm running 2.6.2 but how do I get the XBMC addon? Can't see it in plugins.... or any reference to it in settings.

Apologies for being obtuse and thank for any pointers

Hi,

Using XBMC 12.1 and NPVR 2.62, I'm unable to successfully change channels. I'm using an HD PVR 2 with HDMI input, which works just fine in NPVR itself.

In XBMC, whenever I try to change channels, I can see from the HD PVR 2's light that it stops recording, starts again, and then stops after a few seconds, and XBMC hangs and eventually says 'this channel cannot be played". I have to restart XBMC to make TV work again.

I'm using the patch to NShared and the new addon posted by sub, along with the 'margro' release linked to by sub.. I had this problem with 12.0, 12.1 stable, and the bundled addons as well. (I uninstalled XBMC completely and rebooted between tries).

Logs attached... hope we can crack this one..
Thanks!

edit: this problem seems to only occur with timeshifting turned on. Is this a known bug?
