View Full Version : Hvr-950q

I have a Hauppauge HVR-950Q (ATSC/QAM/analog) but its being listed in NPVR as a HVR-950 (ATSC). Any help on configuring this thing to work in NPVR would be much appreciated. Worked perfectly in GBPVR 1.4.7 (using tweaks that no longer seem to apply).
Can you post a screenshot of the 'devices' screen?

Sure, here ya go.
Can you view that screen again, then post the npvr.log?

Thank you for takin a look sub.
NPVR auto detects what a device is capable of by what the driver reports. Unfortunately your drivers are saying the device is only capable of ATSC and Analog. It doesnt report itself as being capable of QAM.
I'll probably have to add some code to allow this auto detection information to be ignored for certain devices we find that misreport their own capabilities.
It might be worth making sure you have the latest 950Q driver installed. It could be fixed in later drivers (since this is also what MCE does to detect the capabilities).
What version of Windows are you using there?

It just so happens that your new release coincided with my fresh install of Vista. I eagerly awaited the new release and decided not to reinstall GBPVR. Should I revert to GBPVR or is this something that may be updated soon? Not meant to rush or disrespect your hard work....just curious. Thanx
I can probably look at it in the next day or so.

Thanx sub, didnt mean to come off as ungrateful....like the south end of a north bound mule. When i first installed GBPVR, setup and trouble shooting was overwhelming for a newcomer, NPVR seems like a quantum leap in setup simplicity. Thanx again.
This patch should fix it: http://forums.gbpvr.com/showthread.php?46956-QAM-scanning&p=378200#post378200

If it changed anything, its not readily apparent on my system. Unless I'm mistaken, this .dll replaces the one in "C:\Program Files\NPVR" correct?
You might need to delete the npvr.db3 file, then start the app, and view the Devices screen. Hopefully it'll now list the QAM source as well.
If it doesnt, can you run filtercheck.exe from the gbpvr directory, and post the filtercheck.log?

Deleted...still no change....figures I would have an oddball tuner. On a side note, I have the most recent WINTV7 and MCE installed....my decoder is listed "Mainconcept (HCW) MPEG-2 Video Decoder" but the analog side of the tuner isnt showing up either.

oops....didnt see your last post. GBPVR folder? I only have NPVR installed ...no filtercheck.exe

Thanx, heres the log
Is your device actually a HVR-950 or HVR-950Q? What is the model number on the back? I just tried a 950Q model 72001 and it correctly detects both QAM and ATSC.

Interesting, Back of my tuner says NTSC/ATSC/QAM HD TV reciever 72001 LF Rev B3F0
Mine says 72001 LF Rev B2F0, but that sounds pretty similar.
My driver is version 1.93.27282.0. What is yours?
2010-06-16, 05:56 AM
Mine is 1.92.27230.0
My driver seems to be a bit newer. Maybe try the latest driver from Hauppauge.com.

I was thinking I had....fresh install. Their site does leave alot to be desired in the orginization department. Lookin now
The bottom of this page has a newer driver: http://www.hauppauge.com/site/support/support_hvr950q.html
The "27230" part of you driver version is a year/day code. The driver on that page is "28011"... 11th of jan 2010.
2010-06-16, 06:13 AM
ok... restarted now driver is reported as 1.94.28011.0. No change, still only one listing as ATSC....deleted npvr.db3 ...still no dice. I see some hair pulling in my future. LOL
What date time is on your NShared.DLL?
2010-06-16, 07:15 AM
I assume your looking for the "modified" date ... its June 16,2010 1:42:52pm
I dont think it'll make any difference but try this one.
2010-06-16, 07:53 AM
Nope...no difference. There is one little thing thats popping up, every once in a while, in the log that wasnt there before.... a render rate. Other than that im still at square one with ATSC only. Ive un/reinstalled WINTV7 just to double check things. Its working correctly in WINTV7.... so this silly thing is working.
Another patch for you to try. Its now assuming a HVR-950Q supports QAM even if the drivers dont claim thats the case.

First thing, I was running xp when using GBPVR but decided to move up to vista...not liking it to much so im gonna take the next step and pop on windows 7. As for the patch....for your reference, I just tested it and it is now reporting ATSC and QAM. I scanned and found my channels and was able to run them. Still no hint of the analog side, but as i said...gonna see how 7 runs for me and Ill get back with ya. BTW...what OS are you running that reported your Tuner correctly? Thanx for all of your patience and help sub.

Do you have the Hauppauge WinTV7 or SoftPVR software installed? Analog is disabled unless these components are on your machine. You may also need to add the following to you AnalogDevices.xml file (if it doesnt already have it):
<Device filter="WinTV HVR-950 Capture">
