View Full Version : Weather2 V1.0.0.0 Notes

scb147
2009-08-29, 07:40 PM
These are notes on installing/using Weather2 V1.0.0.0:

1. Installer does not stop recording service, please do so manually before installing.

2. Local radar and Local satellite maps are actually State maps. Next revision will correct this.

3. If you had the original Weather plugin installed, it would be wise to uninstall it and make sure the GBPVR/media/WeatherIcons folder is empty before installing. Weather2 uses a different icon map, and the different icon filenames may give you the wrong icon!

4. MVPs are not working at the moment.

5. Some people have had problems installing on W7.

OK, I stopped recording service and the install does complete the first time even while not installing with admin priviledges. I then added the updated .dll you dropped and then went into the plugin settings and added my zip. When I do this, it pops an error then I try to 'continue' and it says it saves it but when in PVRX2, Weather2 does not show up.

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

The final bits of the error message...sorry I just realized I could have put this in a text file instead. Just ain't thinking today.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Can you post your config.txt from the plugins/weather2/config folder?

Thanks!

I don't see a .txt file in that directory, only an xml so I'm enclosing it.

Sorry, it was config.xml...

Have you ran the configuration settings from the GBPVR plugin tab? Your config.xml is empty, meaning, there is no profile setup.

Yes and each time I do it as soon as it finds my location and accepts it, I get the 'unhandled excpetion' screen to give me details, continue or quit. If I choose continue, it says it saved successfully. I then close config, open PVRX2 and go to the Weather2 tab and get another 'unhandled exception' with details or continue. I choose continue and PVRX2 locks up.
Error log info enclosed.

I've added some debugging stuff to the problematic method.

If you could replace your plugins/weather2/weather2.dll with the one in the enclosed zip, rerun the config prog, and send me the config.exe.log file, that'd be great.

You seem to be my trouble case ;)

My bad. I didn't zip it and it was listed as an invalid file but I obviously rushed thru it. Thanks for the notice. It's up now.

Couple things related to your install process:

Installer does not check to see if PVRX2 or the Recording Service is running. If either are, it generates an error on install and hangs on exit, you must cancel out of install to end.
Installer overwrites common DLLs even if installed versions are newer. This will cause problems for other DLLs that rely on newer DLL features.
On startup of config I get error shown in attachment. Looks like a NumericUpDown control was not initialized with a valid value.

[EDIT: updated DLL seems to have solved the exception on startup]

If you grab the files in this thread you will find the missing weather2.XmlSerializer.dll http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=346903&postcount=14 I don't know if you have to have the weather2.dll as well for it to fix the problem but if it does need it there is a bug in it so it doesn't display the forcast for the next xx days

JW---

I re-did the installer to use Nullsoft and the script provided on the wiki. The one I was using didn't seem to do the "overwrite files only if newer version" correctly, hence the problems with the common dlls.
I also have the recording service disabled on my dev machine, so when I ran the installer, worked fine, because there was no service running. So the new installer will take care of this too.

Sorry 'bout that. :o

If/When you get a chance, try this build.

It looks like your config file got screwed up somehow, but I think I've made it so it will fix your config if this problem happens again.

No luck. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but I get to the menu without any errors at all but all I have is a blue screen. But, feel free to hit me or take away my weekly beer allotment but I never tried another skin before to see if it works. I went to default blue and of course that works!
So, I then went to Mayhem and it crashes when I try Weather2. So, Mayhem, Community WS and SD crash. Default blue works fine.

I will say that it's nicely done but I do hope things can be fixed to work in Community Skin.
Be out a few hours but if you need me to try something else, I will.

I am fairly sure if you check out the Community Skin forum there is a new version out that works with Weather2.

For Mayhem you could try copying the ..\skin2\blue\weather2 skin into ..\skin2\Mayhem\Weather2 to see if that works.

Jaggy, thanks for the info. I had already installed the latest version before attempting Weather2 but decided to start from scratch. I uninstalled it as well as Weather2. Reinstalled CS, then Weather2 and it does work! At least on system one. No luck doing this on system 2 yet but I'm getting close.
I've already posted this in the CS group but only after I installed Weather2 does this happen:

I just had a thought & I may be completely wrong, but mvallevand mentioned the other day you can only have so many (I can't remember how many) menu items on the main menu.
Do you have more plugins on system 2 than system 1?

pcostanza
2009-09-02, 01:56 AM
The same ones on each system. Fatman_do is supposedly looking into the problem as I posted it a few days ago.

Really odd, since it works for me with both downloads, so I thought I had fixed it. Reproduce error again and zip and attach all logs please.

Oh, and for giggles, use the skin plugin and apply any theme (even same one), it may fix the menu thing.

pcostanza
2009-09-02, 03:29 AM
You people astound me! Do you just guess at this and get it right? :D
Yep,that did it. Change the skin theme and back and presto! it worked.
It's a damn good thing I don't have to pay for this type of help as I could never afford it.
Another virtual beer heading your way.

So, are you telling me things are working for you now? :)
In one system yes. Doing the same thing in system 2, no. But I don't use system 2 for much more than testing and I'm not thru playing with that one yet. I did the same 'fix' for system 2 and it still crashes when I try to go into Weather2 or the Skin menu.
I'm thinking of starting that from scratch. However, it does work fine with the Blue skin on system 2.
I don't want to bother you guys with any more trouble. You've spent way too much time on my problems. It's working very damn good for me.
